Empowering makers to solve the problems that corporate forgot.
In a time when the world's problems are addressed based on their profitability, George Albercook, Doctor of Analytical Chemistry, started the Make Good Collective to stand as a beacon of knowledge, creativity, innovation, and purpose. The MGC is committed to fostering a community of makers dedicated to tackling issues that may not attract venture capital but are too crucial to overlook.
A Few Projects
Moving Windmills
Working with MovingWindmills in Kasugu Maliawi we developed a way to convert plastic trash collected from rivers into shingles. These shingles make grass roofs waterproof. Solar concentrators are used to heat the molds and melt the plastic so no fossil fuels are needed.
Solar Still for Distilling Salt Water
MGC created, tested and open-sourced plans for creating a solar desalination still to make drinking water from Lake Turkana in Northern Kenya into desperately needed drinking water.
Sound-Deadening Mycelium Materials
By converting a cement mixer and growing mycelium in a found substrate made of things like sawdust we created a building material that is both safe, economical, water resistant and sound deadening.
Crafting an Electric Generator
John Berrie from The Appropriate Technology Collaborative developed an electric generator capable of providing a remote village the light and the ability to charge cell phones. We created a generator from post-consumer microwave ovens and used car parts to convert water or wind power into electricity.
